Low, sandy, water on three sides.

The peninsula sits low between Brisbane Water and Broken Bay, on sandy soils and with water on nearly every side. Driveways here cop salt from two directions and stay damp longer than higher ground, which encourages moss and surface staining. The sandy ground also means a lot of the older Woy Woy and Blackwall homes have paver driveways laid on sand beds, where the joint sand washes and ant-tunnels out quickly. Paver sealing with joint stabilising is some of our most-requested peninsula work.

Salt from two sides.

Umina and Ettalong front the open ocean and Broken Bay, while the Woy Woy and Blackwall side faces Brisbane Water, so almost every driveway on the peninsula is in a salt-exposed position. We use chloride-resistant penetrating concrete sealers and salt-tolerant paver sealers rather than budget coatings that fail fast in this environment.

Damp, shaded, moss-prone.

Being low and surrounded by water keeps the peninsula humid, and shaded driveways and paths grow moss and algae fast. Moss makes a driveway slippery and ugly, and it has to be killed and removed before sealing or the new coat will not bond. We treat moss as standard prep on Woy Woy jobs and add anti-slip grip where a driveway stays damp and slick.
